Title I provides services to 17 non public schools with an eligible population of approximately 650 children. Under Title I legislation, local educational agencies (LEAs) provide services for eligible private school students. No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requires a participating LA to provide eligible children attending private elementary and secondary schools, their teachers and their families with Title I services or other benefits that are equitable to those provided to eligible public school children, their teachers, and their families.
The Title I services provided by the Saint Paul Public Schools are designed to meet the educational needs and supplement the educational services provided by the private school. Services, not money, are provided by SPPS employees. Currently, a staff of highly qualified public school teachers and teacher assistants provide on-site tutoring to eligible students with the greatest educational needs.
