The Title I Homeless Program of Saint Paul Public Schools hosted an event in tandem with Minneapolis Public Schools Homeless Program to provide 1,600 backpacks filled with school supplies and nonperishable food items for homeless children in the two districts on Wednesday, July 25, 2007. The backpacks were provided by Feed the Children, an international, nonprofit relief organization with headquarters in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma that delivers food, medicine, and clothing to people in need who have experienced famine, war, poverty or natural disaster.
In 2007-2008 the Homeless Program identified almost 1300 homeless children in our district. The goal of our program is to stabilize the educational experience for homeless students. When students lose their housing, they often have to leave behind their personal belongings including their backpacks and school supplies. With this donation, students will be able to continue attending school with the materials they need.
