Feed The Children Donates Backpacks The Title I Homeless Program of Saint Paul Public Schools hosted an event in tandem with Minneapolis Public Schools Homeless Program to provide 1,960 backpacks filled with school supplies and nonperishable food items for homeless children in the two districts on The donation of backpacks, valued at more than $25,000, were provided by Feed the Children, an international, nonprofit relief organization with headquarters in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma that delivers food, medicine, and clothing to people in need who have experienced famine, war, poverty or natural disaster.In the 2007-2008 school year, Saint Paul Public Schools served nearly 1,600 homeless students. “The program goal is to stabilize the educational experience for homeless students,” said Matthew Mohs, Assistant Director of Funded Programs, for Saint Paul Public Schools. “When students lose their housing, they often have to leave behind their personal belongings, including their backpacks and school supplies. With this donation, students will be able to continue attending school with the materials they need.” The backpacks will be distributed to homeless students throughout the coming school year. |
